Guitar, mandolin, banjo, bass, and fiddle players from all over the globe have made the first week of new ArtistWorks Academy of Bluegrass online a blockbuster. The site, which offers one-on-one individualized lessons and immediate feedback from award-winning Bluegrass players, saw students from Canada, Scotland, USA, India, Greece, Norway, England, Germany, Spain and Italy in its first week alone.
CEO and founder David Butler could hardly contain his excitement when he spoke of the success of the new site from the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, which ArtistWorks Academy of Bluegrass sponsors. “The enthusiastic embrace of the Academy of Bluegrass online has been pure enjoyment,” he gushed. “The students are jumping right in to the Video Exchanges and making new bluegrass friends from all over the world!”
There are five schools within the academy: the School of Banjo with Tony Trischka, School of Mandolin with Mike Marshall, Darol Anger’s School of Fiddle, School of Guitar with Bryan Sutton and School of Bass with Missy Raines. These five schools are a huge step forward for the teaching of the genre online and helping to spread the music around the globe.
They offer all levels of players a comprehensive Bluegrass curriculum, boosted by a slew of interactive social features. The site acts as a social network of Bluegrass, connecting lovers of the genre and encouraging a community and close network based on the Bluegrass tradition.
