Christian metalcore stalwarts August Burns Red’s new album Leveler sold about 29,000 copies in its first week, landing at No. 11 on the Billboard 200. That total eclipses their previous best debut, which was at No. 24 on the Billboard 200 with 20,000 for their previous album Constellations.

According to Blabbermouth.net, for Leveler, the band’s fourth album, August Burns Red again worked with producer Jason Suecof, who produced Constellations. With Leveler, though, they pushed boundaries a bit harder, ending up with a heavier and more adventurous record.

ABR guitarist JB Brubaker puts it best. “Putting out a fourth record is a little scary because we obviously have our sound figured out at this point, but we don’t want to put out a record that just sounds like a redux of our previous albums,” he explains. “Our tastes are always evolving as musicians and we’ve been motivated to progress as a band and push ABR in different directions, while maintaining the characteristics that made us the band we are in the first place.”

Released on June 21st, Leveler (Sollid State Records) can be purchased as a regular CD or a deluxe edition, which is the first time the band has had an extended version of an album.
