Metallica and Lou Reed Join Forces for New Album

Metallica confirmed last night (June 15) that they’ve recorded a full length album with Lou Reed. On their official website, the band writes:  “Ever since we had the pleasure of performing with Lou at the 25th Anniversary of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at Madison Square Garden in October of 2009, we have been kicking around the idea of making a record together.  We have been working at our home studio at HQ on and off over the last few months.  In what would be lightning speed for a Metallica related project, we recorded ten songs during this time and while at this moment we’re not exactly sure when you’ll hear it, we’re beyond excited to share with you that the recording sessions wrapped up last week.”

In a just-published interview with Rollingstone.com, Reed described the project as “a marriage made in heaven.”  “I knew it from the first day we played together,” he said. “‘Oh, man, this is perfection, right in front of me.’ “

No release date has been set for the album, which has yet to be titled. Reed is currently without a record deal, and Metallica are no longer signed to Warner Brothers.  “We are free to go wherever,” Lars Ulrich told Rolling Stone.  “I’m obviously psyched for people to hear this, in whatever way we feel is right.”
