Pursuing higher education is a great step for anyone. With the economy the way it is, having a degree is very important in distinguishing yourself from the rest. However, pursuing a degree and one’s passion is more complicated. For musicians, pursuing a degree in music may be alright but how many high paying jobs can they get with such a degree? It almost seems impossible to chase after a music career and pursue a degree at the same time. But now there are more options for musicians and everyone else as well.

Online schools are not just for working adults, but that is a good way to look at it. Online school is for those who have other priorities but still want to pursue a degree. Online schools work around your schedule and don’t expect you to work your schedule around them. For musicians, pursuing their dreams of performing and going to school can be easily attained. And through an online education, a musician can enjoy these benefits:

Musicians who pursue online education save more money. Many college students pay a lot of money in gas to commute to and from school. With today’s gas prices, commuting eats up pay checks quickly. You also save money by living at home instead of a dorm and also by eating at home instead of buying a meal plan. It adds up in the long run and with the extra savings, you’d be able to buy new equipment or gas money for gigs or maybe that ’60s Les Paul Custom you’ve had your eye on.

Not only does online education free up some extra money, but it also frees up some extra time to practice. With traditional schools, time is always being eaten up. Walking to class, eating breakfast, taking a shower, driving to school, that equals a good two hours of time and sometimes more. With online schools you wake up, turn on your computer, grab a poptart and eat while you’re in class in your pj’s—15 minutes tops. Once you’ve finished your work and studying, it’s time to get back to shredding your axe. And what makes online education better is that you can set your schedule however you want. Guitar practice first, then class, then work, then practice some more or you can do it in any order you want.

Lastly with an online school you can take classes wherever, including various locations while on tour. If you are lucky enough to have people across the country requesting your presence onstage, or if you travel to different venues across the US, continuing your classes will be a snap. All you need is a laptop and a wireless connection and you are instantly connected to your classes. Talk about the School of Rock!

The choice is obvious. With the ability to be mobile and move from venue to venue, online education is perfect for musicians. The allowance of time, a commodity that most Americans wished they had more of, is increased and instead of the time it takes to drive, walk or run to class, online learners have already completed two classes. Not only does it save time, but money. No gas money, no dorm life and no cafeteria meal plan needed. Online schools are definitely the best type of school for musicians and anyone else who wants to pursue their dream on the side.
