Rock and Roll Pays Tribute to Clarence Clemons

Tributes have been pouring in for Clarence Clemons, the saxophone player in Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band who died after suffering a stroke at his home in Florida this weekend.

Bruce Springsteen said on his website: “He carried within him a love of people that made them love him. He created a wondrous and extended family. He loved the saxophone, loved our fans and gave everything he had every night he stepped on stage. His loss is immeasurable and we are honored and thankful to have known him and had the opportunity to stand beside him for nearly forty years.”

Several musicians expressed their sadness via Twitter.

“Clarence Clemons was a wonderful talent. He will be on my mind tonight,” said Janet Jackson. Coldplay said: “RIP our favorite saxophone player, Clarence ‘Big Man’ Clemons,” and Slash tweeted, “Great sidemen like Clarence Clemons don’t get the full appreciation they deserve until they’re gone.”

During U2’s Saturday night show in Anaheim, California, Bono paid his tribute, saying, “this man just carried music, and music carried him, until this day.”
